There was a time when we were constantly worried about how my daughter would handle being out in the community. Now she comes home smiling, talking about her day, and proud of herself. That peace of mind is everything.
Unlock Your Path To Success
Welcome to Understanding Needed Integration. We are an organization that is committed to supporting adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities, individuals who are judicially involved, and those with enhanced behavioral needs. We believe in a fully person-centered approach to service development and delivery. Every service we provide is tailored to the individual – their goals, their strengths, and their vision for their life. Through 1:1 supported behavioral and mental health support, employment opportunities, and connection to community resources, we help individuals build the skills and confidence they need to thrive. At U.N.I., our mission is to empower people to participate meaningfully within their communities by offering support that fosters purpose, growth, and long-term inclusion.

U.N.I. was founded by our CEO, DeLawrence Grant, and began in February 2020 at our original Carson location, which offered employment centered services designed to help developmentally disabled adults train for and secure meaningful jobs or careers of their choice. At the time, DeLawrence saw the disparity of employment opportunities and services available to this population and developed a program that reflected his vision of inclusivity and employment accessibility to all. Through active engagement and working diligently with his clients in the community, he realized that there was an even larger gap in equity in other support services that were being offered at the time. He wanted to bring a fresh perspective to these outdated programs rooted in the traditional medical model (focused more on rigid routines, efficiency, and medical guidelines), and bring a person-centered approach, catering to the unique needs, values, and preferences to these various types of programs.
From our humble beginnings as an employment service agency, we have grown and expanded to now offer 13 different types of programs catering to evolving needs of the neurodivergent population and continue to develop new programs and initiatives to fulfill these ever-changing service demands. We remain steadfast in our mission to develop and maintain pathways that foster greater independence, self-determination, and community participation to the people that we serve.
